Fort Loudoun Lake - Electrofishing 2010
Sampling date: April 19 - 20, 2010
Species collected in survey (12 runs, 3.0 hrs total effort):
Black Crappie = 18
Largemouth Bass = 278
Smallmouth Bass = 25
White Crappie = 28
TWRA has documented an increasing trend in electrofishing catch rates for largemouth over the past 12 years. The average length and weight of largemouth collected in 2010 were 13.2-inches and 1.4-pounds, respectively.
Smallmouth bass can be difficult to collect using our standardized, daytime electrofishing procedures and the catch rate was low again in 2010. None of the smallmouth collected were greater than the 18-inch minimum length limit.
Although TWRA's electrofishing catch rate for both white and black crappie was down in 2010, our angler survey suggests the population is significant. Anglers have been reporting very good catches during the past several years.
